Bungalow remodel & Extensions

Proposed montage

Location, location, location.  This existing clifftop bungalow has the location, but sadly doesn’t make the most of the incredible views and suffers from some poor design choices.

The client brief was to make the most of the direct sea views, to improve connection with the outside and to create a more spacious and functional ground floor layout.

At first floor the main driver was, again, space.  The existing loft conversion provides a small bathroom and a small bedroom.  With almost all of this first floor space under sloping ceilings, these rooms are almost unusable for the property owners.

The proposal creates more space at ground floor by moving the stairs towards the rear of the building and replacing two single storey extensions with more appropriate additions.  The replacement front extension includes large glazed doors to maximise the views out, while the replacement rear extension provides a bedroom with a simplified shape allowing better functionality and flexibility despite actually being slightly smaller.

At first floor, a raised ridge and eaves level will increase the amount of usable floor area, opening up almost the entire footprint.  This allows for the creation of an additional bedroom, as well as creating a huge master bedroom with dressing area, ensuite and large glass doors accessing to a new roof terrace looking out from the cliffs of Peacehaven over the English Channel.
