Planning Submission

Our latest reconfiguration and extension project has been submitted to Brighton & Hove City Council.

Our latest project to be submitted for planning consideration is for the extension and remodel of a large detached property in Hove.

The layout of the existing house has been altered over time, resulting in restricted views, narrow linear spaces and a real disconnect with the outside areas.  A key focus of the brief was to address these matters; to create spacious accommodation more in keeping with modern day family living and to forge a connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces by re-focusing the main family rooms to take in views of the garden while maximising natural light.

The changes start at the very front of the house.  Moving the parking from right outside the living room window improves the views out over a new planted area with no loss of parking due to a new in/out driveway at the front.

The existing garage is replaced by a new side extension housing the kitchen.  This allows for observation of the front entrance from the new main family space as well as the existing living room and thus improving the connection and natural surveillance of the main entrance.

At the rear, the existing spaces are opened up and extended to create a comfortable open plan family living, dining and kitchen space with split levels.  The main family space has direct access to the garden via two sets of double doors which flank a large window seat.  Sliding windows allow this window seat area to be opened up during the summer months for that true indoor/outdoor feel.

Our fingers are crossed for a successful outcome at planning – we’ll update in due course.
